how to learn english from movies - some tips

Here is a list of tips generated from classroom discussion
- on techniques for improving our English when watching films:

WHY WE SHOULD WATCH FILMS IN ENGLISH:
> to get used used/accustomed to listening to vocab/grammar/expressions/functional language
> to get the right pronunciation
> to get a feel for the natural language
> to feel we are able to use this language accurately – and with the right pronunciation

WHAT EXACTLY WE SHOULD DO TO IMPROVE OUR ENGLISH WHEN WE WATCH FILMS:
> watch a favourite film in your language first [to get to know the plot/language/context]; then in English with English subtitles; and lastly, in English without subtitles
> watch the film in English with no subtitles; take notes in English and your own language; then check through your notes with a dictionary and make an accurate summary
> watch the same film/scene as other students/friends; then discuss it with them
> chose a simple/children’s film; put on the subtitles only if you have a problem understanding
> do some research on-line
> stop the film and review/listen again to that scene
> read the synopsis/book/chapter first; then watch it; compare/contrast the book/film
